Rain drops

The amount of rain we have gotten this year has amazed me just like everyone else. I am also sick of it just like everyone else. I do look forward to one thing though when it rains, and that is when it stops and the last rain drops hide-out where they have been laid to rest. It’s beautiful.

I love portraits. End of story.

Payton’s One-Day Foundation

Over the weekend, I photographed a fundraiser for the story I have mentioned before about Payton Forian. If you don’t remember the story or haven’t heard of it yet let me refresh you:

The Payton Forian “OneDay” Foundation was founded in memory of Payton Katherine Forian who passed away suddenly on January 9, 2010 from Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. Payton was not sick, she was a healthy, happy 5 year old. She became suddenly sick by waking in the middle of the night on January 9, her parents rushed her to the hospital and at 9:38 am Payton had passed away. In May 2010, the Payton’s foundation was founded.. Her parents, family, and friends, have dedicated their lives in helping others and to find cures. According to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association there are an estimated 23.5 million Americans with autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune disease is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in female children and women in all age groups. Some examples of Autoimmune diseases are: lupus, type 1 diabetes, scleroderma, celiac, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, Graves disease, myasthenia gravis, hemolytic anemia, sickle cell, lyme disease, Psoriasis, thyrodi disease, uveitis, allergic asthma, raynaud’s phenomenon, crohn’s disease and Juvenile diabetes. With your help we can make a difference. At the Payton Forian “One Day” foundation we are dedicated to the eradication of autoimmunce diseases through fostering and facilitating collaboration in the areas of education, public awareness, research in an ethical and efficient manner. We are a foundation that is dedicated to bringing a national focus to autoimmune diseases.

The fundraiser was a great success and was very moving. Payton’s story and this cause has changed my life and I am thankful I was able to help. Here are some photos from the set up and the fundraiser itself:

Over the weekend I went to the zoo in Rochester (Seneca Park Zoo) and then yesterday I went to the Syracuse zoo (Burnett Park Zoo). It was a great way to enjoy the nice weather we are having and it was really fun to see all the animals. Here are some pictures from the two zoos.

a better look…

Here is a better picture of my visual book that won the Honorable Mention Award.. It is titled: Nature Runs Through Me and it is a book about my relationship with my dad. It was created in 2011 for my Visual Books class using mixed media.

You may have been wondering why I haven’t been posting lately… Well…I have been busy trying to finish up Grad school. Over the weekend I graduated from Nazareth College (again) with my Masters of Science in Education!! It is such a great feeling of accomplishment. I am really excited about my future and possible careers and I couldn’t be more prepared thanks to Naz. It really is the best art education school in New York State. As part of graduation, we had a Graduate Art Show at school. I was very surprised to find out that I have recieved an Honorable Mention Award from NYSATA (New York State Art Teachers Assosciation). We were told there was only going to be one award for best in show, but apparently they decided that they had to give out two since they had a hard time deciding between my visual book and another piece of artwork. This is a great award to recieve because it is my fellow peers in NYSATA that jurred the show.
