Energy Sketch

This week’s sketch will embody one color and an energy. This sketch will be due Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

**For Drawing and Painting, Advanced Studio, and Studio Art:

  • You should use color as ‘energy’ to your subject matter.
  • You should incorporate a value range (white to black with all of the grays/color range in the middle).
  • You should draw from life and use the color to give your drawing an energy or mood.
  • You should work to fill your entire page.
  1. Start with picking a type of energy you want to portray (excitement, tension, negative, positive, etc.)
  2. Next, find an object or being that possesses this energy.
  3. Draw the object or being from life (as much as possible.)
  4. Enhance the ‘energy’ using the color that represents it best. Think about the intensity of the color at its source (incorporate the value range).

**For Photography:

  • You should use color as ‘energy’ to your subject matter.
  • You should incorporate strong value changes (white to black with all the grays in the middle).
  • You should capture color as a means to showcase the energy you are capturing (this can be added on during editing later on).
  • You should have 3-5 images to present.

1. Start with picking a type of energy you want to portray (excitement, tension, negative, positive, etc.)

2. Find an object or being that possesses this energy.

3. Capture the object or being from an interesting view point, angle, thinking about creating an interesting composition. Limit the distractions in the background.

4. Enhance the energy using the color that best represents it. You will need to add this enhancement in Photoshop. Think about the saturation of your images and the value range of the color (hue).

**For Graphic Design:

Pick a type of energy you want to portray (excitement, tension, negative, positive, etc.)

Find a commercial or ad that portrays this energy successfully. (Pick an appropriate subject)

Change the energy or mood of the commercial to the opposite. See if changing the energy makes the commercial or ad as successful. Is the energy portrayed in this commercial/ ad what makes it successful? Or can it stand along with a different energy? Does changing the energy change the meaning?

Fill an entire page with your re-energized commercial or ad. Reference the original ad or commercial.
